Last Saturday I spent a lovely few hours with my best friend putting the world to rights over lunch. She had done some research, bless her, and discovered a garden centre local to where she is based serving gluten free savoury products as well as cakes! I was there like a flash. The garden centre is based in Chuch Crookham in Hampshire and is called Redfields – I believe it is one of a chain. The cafe was lovely – light and airy with plenty of seating and attentive staff. They had gluten free bread and buns (brown and white) as well as lovely salad options, a gluten free cheese and onion pasty, jacket potatoes and a selection of cakes – I had choice people!! I am sure they had more options but I was happy simply with a cheese and ham toastie (it was a toss up between that and the pasty!) and chocolate shortbread. When I asked one of the staff about gluten free bread options he obviously knew his stuff and did not look at me like a crazy person. Always a bonus I find.
Both were absolutely delicious! I am not sure what bread they used but it was perfect and crammed full of scrummy cheese and ham. The shortbread slice was just the icing on the cake. I will definitely be back despite the hour drive from my pad! If you live in the area pootle along there!!
