Easter weekend I headed home to South Wales to spend some time with my family. To celebrate my impending 40th (by time you read this I will be 40 – arrgggh!) I headed out with my cousins on the Saturday for lunch. We decided to try out The Green in Caerleon and I am so happy with did; it could not have been more perfect in terms of gluten free choice, the team that work there and the surroundings. Despite it being a very wet and gloomy day The Green was a very welcome retreat from the grey day outside. I believe it used to be a pub back in the day and has now been converted into a cafe/restaurant. What I love about this place is that you could easily pop in simply for a hot chocolate and piece of cake just as easily as you could swing by for a healthy salad or full on pizza. They are extremely gluten free friendly and will happily work with you to serve you what you fancy. I opted for Welsh Rarebit (on g/f rolls) and sweet potato fries – bliss! It was served with a lovely side salad and homemade coleslaw.

They also had some amazing looking gluten free cakes!

I apologise about the severe lack of photos but I was too busy guzzling down prosecco and chatting! I did not get a chance to try any cake as my cousins kindly brought one along complete with many candles! This is a perfect excuse to come back though (not that I need one!) and next time I will bring my Mum, who is also a coeliac.
