Last Sunday was a perfect day. A girlfriend and I decided to take a walk through Alice Holt Forest in Farnham followed by a pub lunch. I don’t know the area much at all so took to Google to see if we could find somewhere suitable for lunch after we had burnt some calories off. I stumbled across The Bat and Ball which had a gluten free menu so we booked a table and thought we would give it a bash. First off, Alice Holt is beautiful – I had never been there before and I will certainly be back. Perfect for families, picnics, cycling etc etc. There is also a Go Ape there (and junior Go Ape), I have done this before – never again (fear of heights!). After a couple of hours ambling we jumped in the car and drove the short journey to the Bat and Ball.

First off I have to mention the staff – so friendly! They were very helpful on the gluten free side of things and we settled into our cosy table by the window to put the world to rights very happy.

I was going to opt for the lamb burger but the ploughman’s caught my eye as definitely something a little different to see on a gluten free menu. It was the perfect choice.

We also decided to have a cheeky side of chips 😉
It doesn’t stop there – there was desert too! It was a tough choice between the chocolate roulade and strawberry mousse. The mousse won out, again as something a little different on a pub menu sans gluten.

I will, without any shadow of a doubt, be back to The Bat and Ball – amazing service, food and surroundings! One happy Clairey!
